Hazardous Area Equipment
Solapak engineers and our network partners have been developing and supplying Ex hazardous area equipment for Solar (PV) applications over 25 years, providing energy solutions designed to operate in the most climatic and chemically hazardous areas of the world.
Complete solar electricity systems, upgrades and components for Zone 1 off-shore installations.
Complete zone 1 and 2 solar electricity solutions, including cathodic protection controllers.
We supply a range of fully certified Ex components and complete solar generators. These include PV Modules, Battery Enclosures and a range of Charge and Load controllers which can be supplied with a bespoke set of data and telemetry options. We also supply control and distribution cabinets to client specification.
Our individual components and stand-alone energy solutions carry all the necessary certification for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous environments and meet requirements for both on- and off-shore installations.
SSL expertise in hazardous area equipment was developed in conjunction with some of the major oil and gas companies of the world. We are one of the only independent companies operating today with the ability to design and supply hazardous area solar energy solutions to a global market.
Systems supplied by SSL can accommodate a huge range of electrical power requirements – from small monitoring devices to complete offshore wellhead platforms.
DOCUMENTATION
All certification is provided. Detailed electrical and mechanical drawings, along with installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance and fault finding procedures are supplied.
PV ARRAY STRUCTURES
We offer a wide range of standard mounting options and regularly develop bespoke solutions to meet specific client requirements.
For both on and off shore systems, materials such as anodised Aluminium alloy, galvanised steel, stainless steel and polypropylene, are chosen to offer maximum resistance to the harsh atmosphere and environments present for these installations.
All array components including cabling and glands are approved for use in Zone 2 environments.
SOLAR PV MODULES
50 W to 150W solar panels are certified for use in Zone 2 hazardous gas areas. Certification: Ex II 3G Ex nA IIC T5 Gc according to ATEX Directive 94/9/EC.
12 volt solar PV panels have hardened glass fronts and anodised aluminium frames and are supplied with full certification.
Stainless Steel Ex certified battery boxes supplied in flat-pack format. Removable sides enables straightforward battery installation.
Very good thermal stability when exposed to direct sunlight.
Bespoke control assemblies for Zone 1 and Zone 2.
SSL staff and partners have been supplying zone 1 control assemblies for over two decades.
BATTERY SYSTEMS
Solapak battery enclosures carry a proven history of suitability for hazardous area environments.
Battery enclosures are certified Ex II 3 G Ex nA II T6 (Tamb -20°C to +50°C) for VRLA (OPzV) Batteries.
Battery capacities range from 1692 Whr up to 22,080 Whr configured as 12 or 24 volt systems.
We supply enclosures or complete energy storage solutions - including batteries, circuit breakers and temperature sensors.
All enclosures offer removable lids, air vents, stainless steel fittings, lifting aids, locking facilities, fixing points, drain holes, cable gland entries, and are certified to accommodate battery temperature sensing devices and circuit breakers (in Ex housings).
STAINLESS STEEL
Our stainless steel 316 enclosures are produced to allow flat-packing. This significantly reduces logistical challenges, particularly for off-shore installations.
Polypropylene
Our PP enclosures are dual layer to enhance thermal stability. This extends battery life in hot climates.
HAZARDOUS AREA AC BATTERY CHARGERS ARE AVAILABLE FOR ALL OUR EX BATTERY SOLUTIONS.
CONTROL SYSTEMS & ASSEMBLY
Solapak Systems Ltd can supply control equipment for areas up to and including Zone 1 or Zone 2, Gas group IIB, temperature Class T3. All control equipment is housed inside Ex d enclosures.
Due to the high classification of the enclosures, 'standard' control equipment can be housed within them. All Ex certified enclosures for electrical and electronic equipment can be supplied for customer mounting or pre-installed on bespoke frames, complete with all cables, glands, labelling & accessories.
